Now, it’s a party
In case you missed the email – we released the run list for the big event. Here’s where we’ll be headed:
Your MINI Vacation will include runs to Oatman, Death Valley, Mt. Charleston and the 12 Miles of Terror (circa Bagdad, AZ)!
The trip to Oatman on Thursday has the potential of being a little interesting for those folks coming to AMVIV with a Countryman, or maybe those folks just wanting to get a little dirty – we’ve set up an optional C-Man run through Christmas Tree Pass on the return trip from Oatman. Yes it’s dusty, but the terrain isn’t awful – actually the scenery is quite pretty. If you have a C-Man (or you just want to get dirty) and you’re going on this run, bring an ornament if you wish to leave your mark!
The trip to Death Valley on Friday will include a bonus stop in Pahrump, at the Spring Mountain Raceway for some parade laps around the track. Since it was so much fun last year, we decided to repeat the experience.
For those of you concerned about the ‘potential’ for heat in the Vegas Valley in June – have you forgotten Palace Station has a couple of pools – of course you have, since we’ve never been there in warm enough weather to sample them Well, we’re also headed back up to Mt. Charleston on Saturday afternoon – a perfect escape from the heat. Las Vegas lies at about 2028 feet above sea level, whereas Mount Charleston Lodge is at a cool and breezy 7700 feet above sea level, giving you a great opportunity to cool off before the fun festivities at the Saturday night Pool Party Spectacular!
On Sunday, we’ll meandering to Bagdad, AZ, to try out the 12 Miles of Terror. No, no one will be shooting at us or, trying to blow us up. There are a great many switchbacks, hills and curves on this little stretch of land to keep you and your co-pilots screeching. The SCMC has been trying to find an excuse to head back that way, and AMVIV 9 is that opportunity.
Another return from last year will be the self-paced, self-directed Poker Run. The poker run is a fun alternative if you don’t fancy the longer guided rides setup for AMVIV this year – these are a great way to get out and around the city. All attendee packets will receive one route in their registration packet and you can take as much time as you need to complete it, the deadline to turn in poker run sheets will be 2pm on Saturday. There will be four routes total – and no, they are not the same routes as last year. If you finish your route early, and want to explore other areas of town, additional routes will be $5 a piece. We’ll have a large white board available – and if people would like to attack these routes in groups, come up with a day and time and sign up on the board by the SCMC Booth. One of those routes will be President’s Choice – and boy am I getting a treat ready for you
